Prime Minister hails the Commissioning Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samudra Pratap

New Delhi, 07 JAN. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has hailed the commissioning of the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samudra Pratap as a significant milestone in India’s maritime journey, underscoring the country’s growing strength in defence, coastal security and self-reliance.

Reacting to a post by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said

“The commissioning of Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samudra Pratap is noteworthy for numerous reasons, including the fact that it adds strength to our vision of self-reliance, boosts our security apparatus and reflects a commitment to sustainability, among others.

Shri Modi highlighted that the commissioning of the advanced vessel adds momentum to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, particularly in the defence and maritime sectors. He noted that the ship has been built with indigenous capabilities, reinforcing India’s commitment to reducing dependence on imports while strengthening domestic defence manufacturing.

The Prime Minister further stated that Samudra Pratap will significantly enhance India’s security apparatus. With its advanced systems and operational capabilities, the vessel is expected to play a crucial role in boosting coastal surveillance, ensuring maritime law enforcement, and safeguarding India’s vast and strategically important maritime interests.

Emphasizing sustainability, Shri Modi pointed out that the ship reflects a strong commitment to eco-friendly operations. Modern and green technologies have been integrated into the vessel to reduce environmental impact while maintaining high operational efficiency, aligning with India’s broader goals of sustainable development.

The commissioning of ICGS Samudra Pratap comes at a time when maritime security and coastal vigilance have assumed greater importance amid evolving regional and global challenges. The induction is expected to further empower the Indian Coast Guard in its roles of maritime safety, environmental protection, search and rescue, and national security.

With this addition to the fleet, India continues to strengthen its maritime capabilities, reinforcing its resolve to protect national interests while advancing self-reliance, security, and sustainability on the high seas.
