Shri Divakar Jayant, INAS, Takes Over as Director General of Naval Armament

New Delhi: Shri Divakar Jayant of the Indian Naval Armament Service (INAS) has assumed charge as the Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at Naval Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence. He took over the responsibility on 2 February 2026, succeeding Shri P. Upadhyay, who superannuated on 31 January 2026.

A senior officer of the 1991 batch of INAS, Shri Divakar Jayant joined the Naval Armament Organisation in December 1992 and brings with him over three decades of rich professional experience in naval armament management, infrastructure development and strategic planning.

An Electrical Engineering graduate from IIT Delhi, Shri Jayant has held several important appointments during his career. These include leadership roles such as Chief General Manager and General Manager/Principal Director at major Naval Armament Depots in Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Alwaye, besides key staff assignments at Naval Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence.

His areas of expertise include life-cycle management of torpedoes, planning and execution of explosive infrastructure projects, and human resource and administrative management. He has also undergone advanced professional training, including the Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration (APPPA).

As Director General of Naval Armament, Shri Divakar Jayant will be responsible for overseeing policies, planning and lifecycle support of naval armaments, playing a critical role in strengthening the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and combat capability.

His appointment reflects the Indian Navy’s continued emphasis on experienced technical leadership to support modernization, indigenization and enhanced maritime security.
